Skaters at the Natural History Museum

An afternoon outing to the museum in London; it was the first time we'd seen this skating rink--it's fun to view large. The weather was appropriate--5 C˚ at most (40˚ F), with grey skies; at least no rain.

We saw the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, which we've managed to get to most recent years. This time we found it distinctly disappointing. It has a definitely higher proportion of photos taken with sophisticated techniques--mainly flash. Many are from exotic locations or unusual situations (e.g. underwater); although this has been true in previous years, the proportion seems higher. And even so we were disappointed by many of the images.

Until a couple of years ago, there were a substantial number of images where I could say, "I could maybe manage that." Now there are virtually none. It's a complicated issue, difficult to properly express, and I by no means want to denigrate the quality of the shows--especially the past one. I entered once and did not get far--lightning did not strike :)
