Christmas Lights at Calke Abbey

Lots and lots of people at Calke Abbey to see the Christmas lights and Santa this afternoon. A trail led up the hill first to the church, then to the grotto and finally to the house where we traipsed through the servants' tunnel to the exit.

The National Trust staff there have done a great job lighting the trail and the house. Ivy has been trailed along the edge of the tunnel. Unexpected nooks and crannies present different lighting displays.

Could have done with a cuppa at the end of the trail, but only the van was in operation. No Basil with me today, as dogs not allowed in the property.

But he had been with me this morning when we watched the sun rise over Charnwood Forest from Beacon Hill.
