Hommage to Turner

A wet and dreary day, with electrician's visit this morning leaving a lot of mud on the floor... ah well, he's half-fixed the problem so we shouldn't complain.

We cheered ourselves up by going to the cinema this afternoon, thinking it was bound to be nearly empty for the matinee showing of Mike Leigh's 'Mr Turner' in English. It's a long film at two and a half hours, but the seats were surprisingly full - a mainly French audience - and we thoroughly enjoyed the evocation of Turner's world, lovingly recreated with period interiors as well as exterior tableaux similar to some of his paintings.

Came out to a vista of billowing storm clouds over the seafront at St Georges, so I grabbed my old Canon Powershot from the car and took a couple of shots before we headed home for "a nice cup of tea" - very Mike Leigh!

It's funny how you can get quite nostalgic about England - even Margate - when you live outside the country.
