Turtleneck sweater

It was a beautiful, warm sunny day here today, so Leejohnaire and I headed out to a nearby park.

We saw various animals, insects and birds but I thought this red-eared slider was just lovely! I could have turned it black and white and made some reference to turtles having their homes with them, for the 'Mono Monday: Home' challenge, but I felt that would be a waste of its wonderful colourful markings. This is the most common type of semi-aquatic turtle in the United States and you can often see them sitting on logs at the edge of bodies of water, but they usually plop into the water just as we get close. This one, however, was obviously enjoying the sunshine so much that it just couldn’t bring itself to give up its log. I particularly love the way it’s reaching up towards the sun, its eyes half-closed with pleasure and, at the risk of anthropomorphizing a bit too much, it’s definitely smiling!
