The Sugar Factory

The Longmont Sugar Company was founded in 1903 and joined the Great Western Sugar Company in 1905. Sugar was manufactured there from beets grown in the area and stored in 6 huge silos. It flourished and was a major employer in Longmont until the late 1970's. Then the article I read said the "staple industry collapsed". I'm not sure what that means because everyone still uses sugar, right? Anyway, I guess there was nothing else they could do with the factory so it has become a huge eyesore on the outskirts of the city, much of it collapsing on its own and the rest heavily vandalized.

Looks more interesting large :-)
