Grand Place, Lille

This is Tony's view of the Grand Place (also know as the Place Charles de Gaulle) It is much more interesting than my classical studies of the buildings surrounding the GP. The statue is the Column of the Goddess erected in 1845 to commemorate the city's resistance to the Austrian siege in 1792. Sadly the event has been largely ignored by history.
