World War One Remembrance while knitting socks

"All we dream, you and I, you can really go and do,
And I can't, the way things are,
In a trench you are sitting, while I am knitting
A hopeless sock that never gets done.
Well, here's luck, my dear;- and you've got it, no fear;
But for me.....a war is poor fun."

Rose Macaulay

I found this poem in an old poetry book I was altering as an art project. It is very poignant. At this time of World War One remembrance we should also think of the women left behind.
I learnt to knit while I was acting as an Air Raid Warden in World War Two projects in schools. I was a female ARP Warden knitting for the boys at the Front during breaks in duty. I am knitting these socks as part of a Christmas present for my sister and will get them finished.
