Whalebones, breakers and lightning

The Birsay whale looks out at the foam and breakers, still going strong after four days!

Wave height at the moment is averaging over 8 metres and there's lots of flooding around. The whalebone has stood up to many a gale and I presume it will stay for many years to come. It looks out to the wild Atlantic with the lighthouse and Broch of Birsay nearby. The wind was so strong this afternoon I took nearly a dozen pictures and this was the only one that wasn't too blurred!

There has been lightning and thunder for the last four nights and the boats are rarely going between Orkney and the Scottish Mainland.

Welcome to winter!
