Building In The Botanics

The Botanic Cottage is being reconstructed from its former position on Leith Walk. As the home of the Head Gardener it had stood there for 250 years before the garden removed to its larger site at Inverleith in the 1820's, leaving the cottage to continue as a residence. Threatened with demolition following recent vandalism, funds were raised to dismantle and rebuild the cottage within the present garden.

Of particular interest in this shot is the red propane heater, (see in large) trained on the (blue) sheltered area; the ambient temperature, being below freezing point, would not allow the cement to set, so the area under construction is kept above 0°.
