Kaiapoi Railway Station

The original railway station was built in 1872.  It became too small and was replaced by the above station in 1904.  Passenger services ceased in 1976 and it was completely closed in 1986.

The building was relocated in 2002 and now sits distinctively beside the Kaiapoi River.  Instead of trains passing by, ducks pitch a ride as the river makes its way to the ocean.  Rowers pass by in the early hours of the morning and late afternoon.  Laughter and crying can be heard from the nearby playground. It has become the local Information Center, helping people from all countries.  Its in retirement, I think not, but a great place to settle.

Happy St Pat's Day Everyone :)
