Sheer Madness!

Silhouettes of Brent Geese, I wasn’t really ready to take this photo, as I only noticed them at the last minute.
After an enjoyable, but very late night at the Blue Stack Ramblers Christmas dinner in the Sandhouse Hotel, Rossnowlagh, Donegal followed by mummers & music (a mother & son group), we set off for the bird watching day to Mountcharles pier. Well there was a severe overnight frost & the roads were treacherous, en route we saw an overturned cement mixer (2 fire engines & an ambulance attending it), another car in the hedge (it seemed to have come straight across the road from the driveway opposite a house), my heart was in my mouth while Michael was driving down to the pre-arranged meeting point with sheet ice on parts of the road seemed like sheer madness, luckily nobody else took the risk. Despite the cold, we spotted 28 species, the highlights of the species we saw Redshank, Harbour Seal, Brent geese, Turnstone, lots of Curlew, Reed Bunting, Whooper swans, Red Breasted Merganser & lots of other more common species
