Tree Huntin'

Per the Houck family tradition, we drove up into the Olympic Mountains to cut down a tree for Christmas. It was my first time participating in this tradition. We have two, one for us and one for Spencer's brother and girlfriend. Of course, the trees you cut down in the forest are much different than the trees you buy from a tree farm. But, I think the trees we found are especially beautiful. We drove up in the big truck with Spencer's Uncle Marty. It's been such a warm couple of weeks, there was no snow at all on the road or in the forest, but there was a little frost on the road. The air was crisp, but pretty warm in the sun...not very Christmasy. After we hiked around, found our trees, cut them down and dragged them back to the truck, we set up a BBQ and had bratwurst sausages and beers for lunch. Not a bad day at all, but a strange Christmas tree hunt by my standards.
