Bluebird

I have always loved English robins. This little bluebird comes closer to an English robin than our large American robins, and he was very happy to pose for me, puffed up against the chilly morning as he tried to warm himself in the rather wan sunlight.

We drove up to Geyser Peak Winery on Foss Creek just outside Healdsburg to pick up some wine for a party we are having. The creek, which is full of vegetation, small trees and fallen leaves and branches,  was the culprit in the extensive flooding in Healdsburg three days ago. The winery, like most of the businesses in Healdsburg and the schools in Santa Rosa, were forced to close, because nobody could get to work. Although they pointed out how far the water had come up toward their buildings, they had no damage to their tasting room or their facilities, and today there was no sign of flooding save for a rather soggy looking field and a few puddles in the parking lot.

The sky was beautiful as we drove home with layered clouds, some fluffy and white and some dark and foreboding looking. The foreboding ones won, and it is now looking like rain again as we settle in with the Sunday papers and football games.
