Water Tower by M50, Dublin

There are two common problems with Motorway art, either:
a) It's rubbish, or,
b) It's interesting....but just way too small to be appreciated at 120kph.

This water tower by the M50, Dublin's not-quite-orbital, is not only the most elegant structure in the county, it is also of a scale that matches it's setting. The gorgeous curves slowly emerge into view despite the speed of approach, and the simple graceful object remains in a comfortable eyeline for just the right length of time.
Because of the tower, driving this section of Motorway can be a joy.

Who would have thought those two words 'Motorway' and 'joy' could happily co-exist in the same sentence?
