Demolition

Busy day as every day is at the moment. penguin production is in full swing. I told one boy he would make a penguin if it killed me - his reply was he would rather do ballet! Once he got the hang of it he was ok - however any distraction that came his way and he was off. I wouldn't mind but he is one of our brightest boys! This afternoon the teacher was off seeing his own kids in their nativity so I had the class. I took the easy route and we made Christmas cards. Quite a successful afternoon.

On the way home I passed the old city hospital that is being slowly demolished. The red brick structure on the right was the Memorial Hospice wing and was built 1925-1928, to designs by Wallace Marchment (1880-1940). It was designed as a pavilion plan hospital with an out-patients wing, a significant element of which was the administration block between the two. The entrance lobby to the administration block contained a plaque that stated that the hospital was erected as a war memorial, and records the names of substantial donors to the hospital project.
The hospital was assessed for listing in 2010 but did not meet the required criteria. Shame as it was a lovely old building.
