39 steps

Local legend (or maybe it was a rumour that I heard) has it that these steps were the inspiration for John Buchan's book "The 39 Steps". It's been a while since I read the book, might have to reread it, but I can't remember Kirkcaldy featuring. However he was brought up in Kirkcaldy so who knows. Mind you I'm sure I've counted the steps before and there were more than 39.
