Corner Conversations

This was the corner below our rented 4th floor apartment at about 6 pm this afternoon--the group talked for at least five minutes. (Everyone has a cell-phone in France.) We're extraordinarily fortunate to have such a vantage point (as followers of my journal know), and I love watching the street, the buildings opposite, and the sky.

This intersecting street is Passage Foubert. The sign (brightly lit by a reflection of the setting sun from across the street) notes that Monsieur Foubert was an ancien proprietaire du terrain--a "former owner of the property". (I included him in a compendium of Paris street signs a few blips ago. We're in Paris's 13th arrondissement).

A fashion note: I joined a group that brings together French and English speaker to practice back and forth a couple of weeks ago, where an American woman (late 20s) who'd been here six months said she'd brought many bright clothes but had stopped wearing them since everyone wears dark. As a man, I rarely pay attention, but here it strikes me that two of the three women has a white coat--is it due to spring, or are they exceptions?
