Ottoman chest, Afghan rug, Turkish cat

The chest is very old, perhaps a couple of hundred years, and comes from the Black Sea region in the north of Turkey.

I have no idea what, if anything, the intricate designs carved on it signifiy, but wonder if they might be astrological.
