Lion carrying a heavy weight...

This is one of the lions that carry the columns of the main entrance of the cathedral in Modena. They are a symbol for Jesus, so you can find them quite often like in this photo.

Considering this it is also logical that the animal sustains the column, since it was Jesus who found the catholic church. To all figures, sculptures and pictures you see - no matter if in a church or at other buildings - there always is a hidden meaning behind and very often they have a story to tell.

The cathedral in Modena dates from the romanesque epoch and is part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.
