Gushet 4 - High Street

Nowhere near Shawlands today.

One of the oldest parts of the city, at the junction of High Street and Duke Street, stands this rather fine sandstone tenement from 1902. It was the result of a competition ran by the City Improvement Trust, which was won by the architects Burnet, Boston & Carruthers (who provided most of the sandstone tenements in Glasgow). It's got an Art & Crafts influence, and apparently no two bays are the same.
