Captured Butterfly

Pieris rapae rapae, cabbage white butterfly.

These butterflies are pests in the garden. Their caterpillars munch their way through cabbages, broccoli, rocket and other members of the cabbage family. Vegetable gardening would be so much easier without them. I was quite unconcerned to find this battered male caught in a spider's web. However, when I was trying to get a better shot with the web in focus it fluttered vigorously and escaped. So, no butterflies were harmed...

The flowers are buds of Viburnum tinus.

Quite good in large.
