The Burn

The Grange Burn runs through Grangemouth, thus giving the town it's name, curious as it sits between two sizeable rivers, the Carron and the Avon. The heavy rain and the tide (it's tidal at this point) have taken it to a high level. If I'd waited another 45 mins it would have been closer to the trees. As you can see it's very straight; it's been engineered by Victorian town planners. Additional bunds protect the town from flooding. Even with this there was substantial flooding in the fifties and sixties which led to the construction of an overflow channel further up stream at the edge of town (I'll get to that some day).

The burn dissects the town in two but it's size does little to affect the place, especially now that it's been tamed.

Burn is a Scottish word for a stream.
