My Favorite Whiskey

The Woodford Reserve distillery in Versailles, Kentucky was formally known as Labrott & Graham distillery. It was founded in 1812 by Elijah Pepper and flourished under his son Oscar's management. Their master distiller was Dr. James C. Crow (of Old Crow fame) who developed the sour mash process and was the first distiller to age his whiskey exclusively in new charred oak barrels which is now a legal process distinction of American bourbon. The Brown-Forman distilling company bought the distillery in 1940 and ran it until the early '60s when it ceased operation. They restored the distillery in 1996 and since produces only one product which is Woodford Reserve bourbon. It is unique in that it is made from modified pot stills from Scotland although currently the whiskey is blended with whiskey from Brown-Forman's column still plant in Shively, Kentucky.

I don't have a plethora of descriptive words for it's taste like some do for wine, but suffice it to say it's a nice treat at the end of the day. I happen to like the shape of the flask.

I have a soft spot for Jack Daniel's. How can you argue with such success as Jack is bar none the most popular American whiskey in the world. Jack Daniel's is also owned by the Brown-Forman company.
