Preening

Swans scare me a little. I only recently learnt that they cannot break your arm with their wings (having had this drummed into me as a child), so I ventured fairly close. They appeared to be a peaceable family of five, preening and feeding at the water's edge. Until, that is, a young mum and toddler arrived with bread. They then morphed into Pterodactyl like creatures, waddling with some speed towards the terrified wee boy in his buggy, where they began to lunge, hiss and bite. Crusts discarded, mother and child fled. And so did I.
