Blackfriars.

Blackfriars is a restored 13th century friary in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
It has a long and turbulent history that included a spell as a hostel to accommodate King Henry III during his efforts to fight the Scots. In return the King provided white cloth for clothing for the Dominican Friars. They wore white tunics and black cloaks, which gives rise to their name.
The story goes that the Dominicans gave Newcastle United its idea of wearing black and white.
The buildings now house a range of craft workshops and a restaurant.
The large grass courtyard contrasts with the busy city life that surrounds it.
