Pony in the Camargue

We arrived late this afternoon at our gîte(rented house) in Gageron, a tiny village some 12 km south of Arles in the Camargue--a flat region in the Rhone delta bordering the Mediterranean. We have stayed in the area several times before (three times in this gîte), always in search of birds.

It was already cloudy and quite dark when we took a drive after arriving (so I didn't take my longer lenses). This was the best blip I came across--a pony (probably not wild) by the side of the road. I managed to blip between barbed wires and reeds waving in the wind. Despite the dreary clouds, the light appears almost sunny. More on the Camargue in the next week--mostly birds, I trust.

We spent last night in Le Puy-en-Velay to the north, and visited a Saturday market and the incredible Romanesque cathedral during the morning, before heading off on our five-hour drive to here. Dozens of potential blips, but the pony won out!
