Tabarka

This is inside the wreck of the Tabarka in Scapa Flow, Orkney. This, and similar block ships, were scuttled by the Allies in the channels (that give access to Scapa Flow) to protect the safe anchorage inside the flow from German U-boat attack during WWII.

The wreck lies across one of the main tidal streams that run in to Scapa Flow and as a result receives vast amounts of nutrients which feed a large population of marine life. The wreck feels very safe and open, with entry into the wreck a necessary due of the strong tidal currants. Conditions inside are very atmospheric with streams of light penetrating the dark interior.
