postcards from new york

By editrrix

old school

It's been such a long time since I've seen people out in New York on a hot night just talking, or in this case playing a mean game of backgammon. The New York Times ran a recent article about how the age of the Internet has really taken its toll on the (outdoor) games people play here in the city. In the 1970s (and for years after that) kids and adults would constantly play in the streets at night because their apartments were just too hot. Today you rarely see anyone enjoying stickball or handball anymore. These guys were great, too: It was almost 3 AM and they were still going at it under the burning neon sign of the pizza place that was still open.

P.S. And NOW I'm going to NJ....
