to the casual observer

Now that Eggtude is past we're into the extended April-September season when every second person on the streets between Melville Drive and Ferry Road is probably a tourist. It's not just the people ambling along four abreast on the pavement who look as if they don't know where they're going as people who live here do that too. Hopefully these people will also hesitate to assume that everyone wearing a rucksack and shorts and using a camera is likewise a tourist, concentrating on whether or not they're taking pictures of nothing but the castle, the shitepiper next to the Hume statue and either of the two embarrassing dog-statues. Partly because it's got better airflow over the back and partly because it bears local markings I might switch to my Edinburgh Bicycle rucksack soon to avoid misinterpretation when walking to and from work.
