I disapprove most strongly of the use of motor vehicles for silly short journeys (and long journeys when there are perfectly serviceable trains and buses quite clearly available), but unfortunately even when those somewhat keener to drive end up stuck in traffic and take at least twice as long as it would have taken even a motion-impeded being to walk they are still sometimes nevertheless still used. It's unfortunate that it costs zero pounds whatsoever to add me to the insurance so that the money saving can't be used as an argument to be removed from the insurance, though obviously not for another month or so and it wouldn't get me out of having to be an occasional passenger on pointless short journeys anyway. One useful thing the car achieved was to transport the mattress (which used to be part of the sofa-bed component of the old sofa) from its temporary home squished between the bicycles to the storage unit, freeing the bicycles up again for easy access. When there is more space for bicycle and bicycle-related equipment in a shed I plan to get a small bicycle-trailer in order to be able to allow large-volume shoppings to be performed without the pretence of a need to drive.
