Rude Awakening

It's a very civilised way to travel between here and London, the Sleeper ... well, up to a point.

The journey back was great: I was lucky enough to get a berth to myself (the guy who was meant to be sharing it didn't turn up) and unlike the awful station pub, they were happy to provide me with a wee nightcap in the restaurant car. Deuchars, too. Then I diddledum-diddledee-diddledum-diddle...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz'd all the way back to Edinburgh. Very nice.

However, they used to wake you up with a cup of tea and let you take your own sweet time about getting off the train. Now though, they wake you at 7, then about 20 minutes later they tell you "you've got a couple of minutes more to get off before they lock the train doors."

Kind of takes the edge off it.
