All quiet on the Belgian front

Last Thursday the Belgian federal government collapsed again, this time over a language conflict that has already been simmering for more than 10 years.

The dispute concerns communities on the outskirts of Brussels (in Flemish territory) which are trying to maintain their Flemish identity. To achieve this they want to remove the special voting rights for French speakers (meaning: they can vote both for a french or a flemish politician, not possible anywhere else in Belgium).

While the politicians are still trying to glue the pieces of the government back together, everyone else was just enjoying the nice weather today. No signs of any conflict at the federal parliament of Belgium!
