Pakistan Independence Day 1947-2007

I was in Lahore at the occasion of 60th anniversary of Pakistan. Lahore city was very over-crowded and buzzy on that day. People were celebrating 14th August in chaotic traffic. Motorcyclist had gone crazy and youngsters were hanging from the windows of 4 wheelers. Loud patriotic songs were coming from huge speakers mounted on vehicles and boys were dancing in the middle of main roads during terrible traffic jam. Roads were flooded by the rain water in the evening. Flags were waving all around and patriotism was obvious from everyone's dressing. Anything else? yes, the plastic whistles. These two-rupee whistles mimicked hight pitch baby-crying noise. Thousands of people were carrying them and together they produced a very painful noise in the air. There was pollution in all forms.

Happy Independence Day

P.S. What happened to the dream behind the creation of Pakistan?
