1st of May Soap Bubble

In Finland we have this tradition of buying balloons to celebrate the 1st of May and ending of the winter. The balloons are mainly for kids but also adults often buy them.

I have always liked balloons, but nowadays I don't go along with the idea, because the balloons are mostly made of plastic. I try to reduce as much as possible all plastic because of the global warming and pollution in general. So Timo and I decided to make some big soap bubbles instead.

We went biking in Espoon keskuspuisto forest. We have a special place where we leave our bikes and then continue by walking in the woods. We had all the gear packed in the backpack, and we found a nice place to start blowing and shooting.

When Timo started blowing he had to search for the right technique for a while. He got a bit frustrated when it didn't work out straight away. After a while he succeeded really well and I shot the flying soap bubbles. We had a great time laughing at all the funny shapes that the bubbles took while blowing.

When I had been shooting for half an hour I said that I was done with the job. Timo said that he'd blow just one more. Well, he still blew about five bubbles and gave me that guilty look, and laughed that it was so hard to stop blowing. He is so funny!

In this shot you can see the trees reflecting on the bubble.

Best viewed as large.

As winter now has officially ended here is a great video to celebrate this with Mike Oldfield and Tubular Bells 1973
