postcards from new york

killer caller

Many apologies for today's photo, but I remained within the confines of my neighborhood. This is the corner of twelfth street and second avenue, a store that has been vacant now for more than a year. When it was open it was filthy and I was wondering how long it was going to take before the board of health came and shut it down. It is now ripe for street taggers. The graphic to the right isn't advertising; it's street art, a variation that has appeared in many places throughout the city of a skeleton talking on a cell phone. I think the Andre the Giant (left) is by Shepard Fairey who is huge right now. Not sure about the pig, but it has been there longer than anything else. Many downtown buildings are either covered with legitimate advertisments or street art. In a battle between the two, advertising always wins.
