Optimism of Youth

During some long overdue time in the garden this morning we found this beautiful tiny blue bird egg.

My first thought was of course that one of the many cheeky grey squirrels had got lucky and had 'lunch'.

My son of course pointed out that perhaps the occupant had just kicked it free and was above us in his/her nest preparing for a first flight.

I liked his version much better.
