Empty Skies

This is a bittersweet blip.

Sweet because the sky after work was stunning and dramatic with the best kind of puffy clouds.

Sweet because the chimney swifts are returning on schedule. There's one close to the middle of this picture. Look for the flying cigar!

Bitter because there are far fewer of these birds then there was even five years ago. They were common, now they are threatened and no-one really knows why but it's probably because we are killing off our insects too.

Bitter because I only am able to make very small changes in my life to help.

Bittersweet because there must be hope and must be a way to find balance between us and the creatures that share our world. We need them far more than they need us.

And sweet because they are back this year and safe and will fill the summer sky with their twittering calls.
