Sheilah's snaps

Dream

20m tall
17m diamter plinth
373 tonnes in weight
100m above sea level

Built on the site of the closed down Sutton Manor Colliery at St Helens.
Apparently, the former mine workers were consulted about what form the sculpture should take; instead of an industrial memorial they wanted something that would point to hope for the future.
I like that.

Saw it from the motorway for the first time a few weeks ago on the way up to Scotland. Nice to get close up today
