Eyjafjallajoekul

As I mentioned yesterday, our flight home from the Dominican Republic was delayed, and we ended up leaving nine hours late at midnight.

The reason for the delay was the erupting volcano in Iceland which is currently disrupting a lot of flights in Europe.

Because of the current location of the ash cloud, it was fine to fly back across the Atlantic, although apparently we did have to take a slightly more circuitous route than usual which added an hour or two onto the flight time.

I'm not sure why, but the flight was really quiet and we got moved into exit row seats so it was really very comfortable.

As it happens, the time delay worked in our favour as we got to spend extra time on our holiday and the overnight flight was ideal for minimising jetlag. We watched a film about Brian Clough (The Damned United) which I really enjoyed, then we got about six hours sleep.

An hour or so before landing, we saw this fantastic sight - the cause of all the disruption! Wow! It was amazing and a brilliant end to our holiday!

Please look at Cyclops's photo of the volcano too, as it is much better than mine (no wing in the way!)

Please do check out my back blips from my holiday in the Dominican Republic:
