A. W. Barnes Apple

This apple and another, Millicent Barnes, were raised by N.F.Barnes in 1902/03 in Cheshire.

N.F. Barnes was head gardener to the Duke of Westminster at Eaton Hall near Chester from 1892-1946, retiring at the age of 81.

Arthur William Barnes and Millicent Barnes were two of his children. Arthur his eldest son was later killed on 11th April 1918 in the Ypres Salient. Arthur was a Captain in the 9th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment.
