RW's Daily Exposures

Coyote Hills 2010

It was a rainy intermittent day in San Jose today. Unusual for this time of year, especially after all the rain we've had (we're at approximately 122% of our normal rainfall to date).

This is Coyote Valley. It has been agricultural land and open space for over 100 years. John Muir wrote several entries in his journal about the wildflowers and flocks of wild birds he saw in this area. Unfortunately, developers continue to buy land and attempt to build on it. Recently, a research project was started by a local college and it has been found that this area includes at least 3 different wildlife corridors and over a dozen endemic species of plants and animals.

It is a very special area and on days like this I like to time travel back to earlier days. It is just 10 minutes south of the bustling, almost 1M in population, city of San Jose. Hopefully, the people of San Jose and its elected representatives will continue to work on keeping this area as wild as possible.

Enjoy!
