Arlington National Cemetery

After spending the morning walking around Old Town Alexandria, a historic suburb of Washington, D.C. dating back to the mid 18th century, we visited Arlington National Cemetery. Situated in Virginia, it is a military cemetery established during the American Civil War and today covers over 600 acres. The rows upon rows of uniform gravestones make quite an impact - as do the empty plots reserved for future graves - though there are also a number of larger tombs and monuments to commemorate certain individuals, groups or events.
