Smoke and flags

The picture is a bit smoky because the fire had just been lit. We had our Cercle Occitan barbecue in the vineyard belonging to one of the members, surrounded by vines, pine trees and olive trees. There were about forty of us. Six hours of aperitifs, salads, tarts (I contributed an asparagus and goats' cheese tart), wine, grilled sausages, wine, cheese, desserts including crème caramel (or flan as it's called here) made by two women who are famous in the village for their flans, oh, and did I mention the wine? All the wines were made by people who were there and they were all extremely good. A good but exhausting way to spend a sunny May afternoon.
