U12

We dived the U12, a WWI submarine. She sank after being rammed by HMS Ariel, in March 1915. The U12 is unusual since she was designed to carry and launch a seaplane from her foredeck - apparently this happened just once before they decided it wasn't such a great idea!

Conditions on the surface were perfect but at 46m there was an almighty plankton bloom and very little light. You can see the plankton in the torch beam. This is the best photo of a pretty bad bunch - my buddy Brian exploring one of the forward hatches. As you can see there are fishing nets caught on the hatch, at the bow there's a full set of trawl gear including the trawl doors.
