The Mitchell Library Glasgow

This is the imposing North tower of the Mitchell Library which you can see as you drive through Glasgow on the M8.
I had to go up to Glasgow today to visit the National Youth Choir of Scotland offices to collect various books and equipment needed for my choir.
These offices are situated up on the 3rd. floor of this lovely old building and to get to them you have to go up in a huge lift and through various corridors. On reaching the 3rd floor it is obvious that this is where thousands of old books are stored and there is a very distinct smell, which I can only describe as slightly musty. The air up here is very dry to preserve the books and they are housed in very narrow dark-wood shelves.

All the floors in the corridors are marble and the walls are decorated with ornate tiles.

It is like taking a step back in time.
