Aged Graffiti

W. MALCOLM 1798

This old graffiti catches my eye everytime I go to class in St Salvator's quad in St Andrews. Up until now though, I've never thought of blipping it. Since I no nothing about it, I'll simply contextualise the date with major events of 1798 around the world. Maybe then we can get an idea of what the world was like at the moment Mr Malcom decided to deface the ancient tower.

- The ongoing French Revolution (1789-1799)
- The Irish Rebellion of 1798
- Napolean's battle of the Pyramid
- Napolean's occupation of Cairo and the subsequent remapping of the city - hence today's typically french boulevards in the city
- Lord Nelson's battle of the Nile
