Built like a log ....house

It really was a lovely place! Log cabins hand built by a legend in northern Canada.

Bern Will Brown is an atrist and former Catholic preist living in the remote community of Colville Lake.

When I met him he was 86 or 87 years old, still painting, still running his lodge.

The lodge is a collection of log structures like the one in the photograph. Inside my cabin there were two log bunkbeds framed into the walls, a small kerosene heater (which was stuck on high) a microwave, and a bowl to wash up.

Electricity was added after construction of the buildings (probably when the power plant was built in 1992) and was run in conduit over the surface of the walls.

The building shown in the picture is actually an outhouse. Lovely to look at, but rather treacherous in the dark, stumbling over snow, with a floor that had partially collapsed!
