Conscientious Objectors

I have seen these flowers in the Peace Garden for a couple of days now but curiosity got the better of me. They all have names or places on them (close up) so i went into the tourist info office and had a chat to the lovely woman in there.

Aparently its for Conscientious Objectors Day to mark people who have objected to military service or countries where they have been held.

Have to say i admire their stance but cant help remembering the words of a soldier from WWII in a piece at the War Museum about this very subject. He said;

"I never wanted to fight, i never wanted to kill anyone. But if we had all been Conscientious Objectors who would have stopped the nazis? Who would have stopped the concentration camps? What would life be like now for all of us?"
