In Grasmere Church

Most people come here to visit the graves of William and Dorothy Wordsworth and their relatives.

But many years ago I wrote an article for The Scottish Field on the life of Sir John Richardson (like me a native of Dumfries, who became an Artic Explorer and a hero for his attempts to rescue Sir John Franklin).

He is buried in St Oswald's Churchyard, Grasmere. This plaque remembers his mother-in-law. The light on the relief work looked stunning.
