Peeking out of the shell

The Pond

Went for a (rather warm) bimble this afternoon, and crossing Littleworth Common I took this photo of the pond.

Now you are probably thinking this is an unremarkable picture of an unremarkable pond. Well the reason I took the photo is that it's missing something: Swallows. Normally by this time of year there would be Swallows and Swifts zipping low over the water snatching insects as they refueled after their long journey from Africa. This year, nothing so far. Hopefully they will turn up soon, and have just been delayed by the northerly winds which have persisted for so long this spring.
